Monday, September 12th, 2011

I love NFL Sunday ticket. One of the side benefits to having NFL Sunday ticket is the fact I get to watch the American ads and this one for FedEX just killed me.

1800 Tequila Commercial Review

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

As I like to make short term investments on sporting events I get the Rogers Super Sports Pack so I can watch just about every game under the sun. One of the side benefits is the fact I get to watch American commericals and this one for 1800 Tequila I quite enjoy.

Right off the bat I could nit pack and say Michael Imperioli is trying too hard to be like the Dos Equis guy. Plus Chrisy was the weakest mob guy on the Sopranos so him playing this big and bad old school gangster type is tough to totally believe. On the flip side who else were they going to get for this spot? You know James Gandolfini wasn’t going to do something like this. Pauly Walnuts? Too much of a cartoon, plus he is old, no one sells to old person.

What I do like about these ads is the fact they are straight to the point with just enough cool to it. I like the music, I like the message, I’m sure I’d like the drink also. Here is another one in their series of spots below.

Sleeman Beer TV Commercial Review

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

I wish I was in the creative meeting for this campaign because I can just picture it.

Sleeman : Hey whiz kids what ideas to you have for us this year.

Creative people : Well, let’s do exactly what we did last year and mention how Sleeman past is tied into pirates and the mob to make the beer look bad ass.

Sleeman : Great thinking!

Below is last year’s ad for Sleeman

It’s exactly the same thing. The only difference is they added a Mike Bullard (Canadian last night host in the 90′s who hasn’t been heard from since 2002) look-a-like who would get his ass kicked in any speak easy. When I think of bad ass beer this portly pitchmen isn’t exactly popping up in my mind.

Ice Cube’s Coors Light Commercial

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I remember in the summer of 1989 walking about my neighbourhood and seeing a ton of kids with these black N.W.A hats. My first reaction since I was a totally wrestling geek was hey how come so many kids are starting to like the National Wrestling Alliance. Soon after I heard straight Straight Outta Compton and my mind was blown away. Move over Public Emeny as N.W.A took over.

Fast forward to today and seeing this Ice Cube Coors light ad saddens me. Can you imagine asking Ice Cube in 1989 if he would be hawking beer 20 years later what his reaction would be? This is the same guy who was all over MC Hammer for selling out. For crying out loud Ice Cube wrote No vaseline. Does Ice Cube need the money to get next, NEXT Friday off the ground? For know if 2pac were alive he wouldn’t be doing this. St. Ides Special I have no problem with.
