Brek Shea Goal Against Toronto FC

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Get Microsoft Silverlight

As this goal cost me money last night I figured the least I can do is post it. It kills me how the TFC midfielder loses possession merely dribbling the ball. He wasn’t even tackled then Brek Shea who can easily make the mark in Europe goes right down the middle to blast it home.

EPL Gossip Thursday July 21st

Southampton could be ready to sell striker and Arsenal target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – but only for £12m-plus. Full story: Daily Mirror

Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t going to help Arsenal in the short term but with his talent I’d still pull the trigger.

Arsenal will make a £10m offer for Birmingham defender Scott Dann after becoming increasingly frustrated over Bolton’s demands for Gary Cahill. Full story: caughtoffside.com

Dann is a good plan B and he might even be just as good as Gary Cahill.

Liverpool are tracking Hamburg’s Marcell Jansen as manager Kenny Dalglish looks to bring in a new first-choice left-back after one of the players used in that role last season, Paul Konchesky, joined Leicester last week. Full story: caughtoffside.com

The Anfield ball boy could replace Paul Konchesky at left back.

Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani could be on his way to Italian outfit Fiorentina.
Full story: the Sun

Would be a good fit however I have a feeling Aquailani makes salary wise more than Fiorentina would like to pay. Would be a decent replacement for Riccardo Montolivo if and when he leaves.

Chelsea and Everton are locked in a battle to sign Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez, who is set to leave the French club this summer. Full story: talkSPORT

Either club would be lucky to have Lucho Gonzalez. I have no idea why he has been dragging on the transfer market this long.

Wigan midfielder Charles N’Zogbia is to go on strike by refusing to train as his frustration boils over following the rejection of a £9m bid from Aston Villa. Full story: Daily Telegraph

I don’t understand why Aston Villa are playing these games. Throw in the extra million and get the deal done.

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has no hard feelings after England team-mates Ashley Young and Stewart Downing left the club this summer. He said: “I wish them all the best and I hope they go on to achieve great things.” Full story: Daily Express

Considering he bolted Sunderland he couldn’t really blame Young and Downing for leaving.

EPL Gossip Wednesday July 20th

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

What a waste of time as Corinthinas pulls out of the Tevez deal. May it had something to do with actually having to pay the 40 million instead of boasting about it to the media? I love the excuse how there wasn’t enough time before Thursday deadlines. Considering Tevez wants to leave England so badly I’m sure 48 hour is enough time to get a deal done.

Tottenham and Aston Villa are locked in a battle with Italian side Lazio to sign Lyon’s 21-year-old playmaker Miralem Pjanic. Full story: talkSPORT

Been a big fan of Pjanic talents even before he scored the goal to knock Real Madrid out of the 2009 Champions League.

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Bayern Munich for the transfer of France forward Franck Ribery.
Full story: footybunker.com

Consider me shocked if this ever happened. Two Ribery and Arsenal don’t have the same appeal as they did four years ago.

Liverpool have invited Mexican striker Marco Bueno for a 10-day trial and are in talks with club Pachuca over a potential five-year deal for the 17-year-old. Full story: Daily Mail

Geez, I wonder what caused Liverpool to all of the sudden take a look at Mexican talent?

Arsenal have again been scuppered by Manchester United in the transfer market, this time for 19-year-old Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell. Full story: Metro

It’s so sad watching Arsenal try to work the transfer market these days. First Joel Campbell who may be good isn’t the type of player fans are paying $100 to see and second what does it say when even a kid from Costa Rica isn’t sold on Arsenal?

Spurs’ Brazilian midfielder Sandro has played down fears he faces three months on the sidelines with a knee injury, saying he is likely to be out for only one month. Full story: talkSPORT

Not exactly the best way to go into the season.

New £4.8m Newcastle signing Yohan Cabaye was initially refused entry to the United States after being accused of not paying for some dentistry work completed there while he was playing for Lille.
Full story: the Sun

I love the fact Newcastle booked a tour of the United States when it seems like half there players (ok three) can’t get into the country.

EPL Gossip Tuesday July 19th

Manchester City want assurances from Corinthians that they will be able to pay a £39m transfer fee before they sanction the departure of unsettled forward Carlos Tevez. Full story: the Times

As they should. It would be funny if Corinthians just made that offer tog et some press and are now forced to find a way to come up with that money?

Manchester United may turn to Santos’ Paulo Henrique Ganso in their search for a playmaker, with a £25m bid being considered for the 21-year-old. Full story: Metro

Have a feleing his price may come down slightly after his performance in the Copa America.

Manchester City have edged ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign £18m-rated striker Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht. Full story: Metro

Been waiting for a Lukaku transfer for three years now.

Barcelona are expected to make Arsenal an offer of around £35m for midfielder Cesc Fabregas this week, their third bid of the summer. Full story: the Independent

Feels like I’ve been waiting for this transfer for 30 years.

Chelsea are hoping to trump interest from Juventus and Arsenal and lure £12m-rated Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Arturo Vidal to Stamford Bridge. Full story: Daily Mirror

I not so sercetly enjoy the fact that Bayer Leverkusen have no interest in selling Videl to Bayern Munich.

Fiorentina are likely to test Tottenham’s resolve to retain midfielder Niko Kranjcar’s services with a formal bid. Full story: Footie-online.co.uk

What resolve? I don’t think Tottenham will fight too hard to keep Kranjcar if a decent offer is made.

Fulham manager Martin Jol is keen to bring former Leeds and Liverpool winger Harry Kewell back to the Premier League. Full story: footybunker.com

Why? I know Harry Kewell has done well in Turkey but his time has passed.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants to bring Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor to the club on a one-year loan with an option to buy. Full story: Daily Mirror

Have a feeling Adebayor is going to wait until the final second in case Real Madrid decides to make a move.

Cristiano Ronaldo Already In Mid-Season Form

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Messi and Barcelona pretty hear those foot steps coming. Sure the goalie should of covered the short side but come on what a shot none the less. It’s good to see the man 60000 people came to see give something for these fans to remember.

Missing – Ashley’s Judd New TV Show

Monday, July 18th, 2011

One of the cool things about my job is that I get to see most of the new TV shows before they go on the air. During upfront season TV stations all parade around their show like it’s going to be the next Lost or Glee. Some are good, most are average, some are bad then you have Missing which is suppose to be a mid season replacement on ABC this year.

So it’s come to this for Ashley Judd hasn’t it? First off watch the promo clip for this show. It’s horrible. What legs can this show have when you really think about it. What happens when she finds her son? Does the show name get changed to Found and it ends like a Spanish soap opera? What if she doesn’t find her son, doesn’t that make her an awful ex CIA agent? Yes, it does.

More questions I ask myself, I don’t want to say Ashley Judd is a bad mother but if you give up your job to raise your kid and you lose your kid that makes you a bad mother. Not even Morgan Freeman can save this show however it would be funny if the kid is discovered to be Morgan Freeman on some sci-fi twist. Here is hoping Missing doesn’t turn out to be a new 24 instead of goes away like NBC’s Chase did last season.

Congrats To Japan!

Monday, July 18th, 2011

What an unbelievable double as not only is Japan the sinnacle World Champions on the men’s side they can also claim to be the women’s World Cup champions as they defeated the United States after penalties.

What a great World Cup, unlikely the Copa America it hasn’t be filled with teams not wanting to push forward or rolling around on the ground at every moment. The quality of play was just fantastic. As far as the United States goes it’s hard to knock them after all the heart they showed in coming back against Brazil but they have only themselves to blame for losing the World Cup. It was nervous defending which caused Japan to tie it up late in the game and yet in extra time it was the United States who let Sawa head the ball in on a tight angle.

When it came down to penalties you figured Hope Solo would save the day but it was the Americans who looked nervous missing their spot kicks before Japan sealed the deal on a beautiful penalty kick to the top corner. Let the stories of how the earthquake inspired Japan begin and sadly let the stories of Vivid making a movie “loosely” based on the US women’s world cup team begin.

What A Weird Copa America

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Each and every single game this weekend I kept thinking to myself there is no way this upset will happen right? First Peru, then Uruguay, then Paraguay and finally Venezuela make up an unlikely final four. Congrats to all four teams but much like the press does instead of focusing on the winners I’ll be throwing dirt on the losers, most notable Brazil and Argentina.

First Argentina, you know I’d love to slang Lionel Messi the rare chance that I get but even now I can’t bring myself to slang him too hard. Two weeks later and it still puzzles me why Sergio Batista had four defensive midfielders playing against the “offensive powerhouse” that is Bolivia. For all the grief Maradona took from the press at least his teams liked playing for him and knew how to score. Be it the egos, the system, the pressure of playing at home or the coach himself it looked like these players were annoyed on the field. I also find it fitting that the people’s player Carlos Me First Tevez was the one who missed the penalty kick to knock out Argentina. It was after all Batista who tried to remove Tevez from the national team before bowing to pressure and bringing him in only to do nothing.

Brazil is up next. First and foremost I couldn’t under why Mano Menezes didn’t call up Hulk. Are you telling him Fred who sulked his way out of Lyon is better than Hulk? Even if you wanted to make the case of putting Hulk out wide like he is used at Porto anyone who watches football could easily tell you Hulk is a better player right now than Robinho. I also hated the white shorts with the yellow jerseys. Yellow Jersey and Blue Shorts is the way it should be. There is a real problem with this Brazil team. There are no leaders, no alpha’s on this squad. Brazil has always had a shining star be it Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Romario, Zico, you get the picture. Who was the leader of this Brazil squad? Robinho? Please he is a career sulk who offers nothing when he doesn’t have the ball. Pato looked like a deer lost in headlights half the time, he too is more robin than batman. Neymar is an inmature kid, he is not ready for that position. No one on this Brazil side stepped him. Putting on that Brazil jersey is like going into a phonebook to put on a superman costume but none of these Brazilian players came close to living up to the highest of standards of Brazil teams past. They can blame the field all their want over four of the worst penalties I have ever seen but they didn’t look good in any of their four games and have no reason to feel unlikely over not making it to the semi finals.

Aetictlo Madrid striker Sergio Aguero is prepared to take a pay cut to join Manchester City.
Full story: Daily Mirror

Sergio Aguero has a bad agent if he needs to take a pay cut in order to play for money bags Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects to see midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who has been linked to Barcelona, in a Gunners shirt on Saturday when the team play Cologne in a friendly. Full story: Daily Mirror

Meanwhile, Fabregas is pleading with Arsenal to be allowed to move back to Barcelona.
Full story: Daily Mail

zzzzzz but seriously it bugs me how stupid Barcelona has gone about signing Cesc Fabregas who isn’t going to a make a lick of difference for them this season. Real Madrid learned from the Ronaldo signing that they can’t bully Manchester United out of the player cause it makes Man United look weak. For Arsenal to win the P.R battle they can’t go and sell Fabregas at the price Barcelona is only willingly to pay. If Barcelona stayed quiet for six months then offered Arsenal 40 million then Fabregas would be a Barca player and Arsenal can then spin the fact they got 40 million for a player who scored three goals last year.

Everton are weighing up a bid to take Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner on loan.
Full story: Daily Mail

If this doesn’t wake Bendtner that no one thinks he is a star striker but him I don’t know what will.

Aston Villa lead Juventus and Liverpool in the race to sign Fiorentina’s 27-year-old winger Juan Manuel Vargas. Full story: Footie-online.co.uk

I wonder why Vargas name has popped up again? Could it have something to do with knocking out Columbia in the Copa America?

Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou has told Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas he does not need to spend big to win back the Premier League title. Full story: Daily Mirror

Because if Chelsea do spend big Kalou will never play.

There Will Always Only One Degrassi For Me

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Every morning I get off at Yonge Subway station in Toronto where the new season of Degrassi is on every poster in the station. For some reason this rage comes over me when I see these posters. Now I realize I’m way outside of the Degrassi target audience and with that I’ve never watched the new show but I hate looking at this kids. Every poster featuring the class members remind me of those kids I hated growing up who went to performing art schools. I feel like this kids want to jump to 90210 or become rap artist.

This is where the beauty of the original Degrassi sets in. All those kids looked like people I was growing up with. I never looked at Joey Jeremiah and ever looked at him as an actor playing a part. Granted I was young and naive then.

Needless to say I will freely admit I grew up watching Degrassi and it thought me many a life lesson. Below are some of those and other random thoughts.

Lesson 1) I learned early on I’ll never drop acid. Poor Shane did acid at a concert and he pretty much turned into a vegetable soon after. To make Shane’s life more messed up he knocked up Spike in grade eight. Talk about throwing away your life at an early age. His parents must been be happy parading him around at family functions. Which brings me to point number two.

2) Don’t knock up the Spiky hair rocker chick. You don’t want to be 13 with a kid.

3) If you are going to be a rock star you should have more then one song. There was a reason the zit remedy never went far. The only song they ever performed was everybody wants something.

4) Moving on to Wheels. He thought me to never hitch hike since there is a good catch someone is going to try and molest you. Creepy screen below.

5) It may of not been the smartest decision but I decided to go to Centennial College mostly because they filmed Degrassi High there. I saw the ramp and I saw my future.

6) I learned early on that I was a cold hearted bastard as I couldn’t care one bit when Jean Claude blew his brains out. You broke up with a girl, no need to shoot yourself.

Anyway I could go on and on with Degrassi but this is my little tribute to a show that was so ahead of it’s time and captured a moment so perfectly.
