I love the Sven press conference
In this special Qatar edition of EPL Gossip I’m still wondering if Qatar is pronounced like “cutter.” Which made me think of the highly underated Echo and the Bunnymen song “The Cutter” and the line “spare us the cutter.”
On the flip side is Qatar pronounced like guitar only with a Q instead of a G?
If that is the case then I bring you the massively underrated George Harrison while my quitar (spelt that way on purpose.) gently weeps. On the subject of George Harrison what I liked most about him is the fact I truly believe he made music for himself. He didn’t care if one people or a million loved it. John and especially Paul loved the connection their music made with fans (nothing wrong with that.) George just did his thing and if you liked it great, if not he was still counting that Beatles money anyway. Again just my opinion, awesome musican.
On to the reason you come to this site I guess.
Chelsea and Manchester City target David Luiz admits he does not know if he’ll still be a Benfica player after January. The 23-year-old defender, who could cost £25m, has also been linked with Spanish sides Real Madrid and Barcelona. Daily Mirror
Benfica better gear up for Europa League success. Eight points back of undefeated Porto is a tough hill to climb. As for David Luiz the same 25 million that is out there now will be there in the summer. Little chance they sell him now and risk dropping down a spot as it could cost them Champions League money.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will offload six of former boss Mark Hughes’s signings in the January transfer window. Joleon Lescott, Wayne Bridge, Shay Given, Roque Santa Cruz, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Emmanuel Adebayor have all been told they can leave. Daily Mirror
I know Lescott was a key player for Everton but they must love the fact Manchester City foolishly paid so much money for him.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce fears striker Danny Welbeck’s good form could price him out of making his loan from Manchester United into a permanent move. Daily Mirror
The reality of it is when you’ve spent 10 plus million on Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan plus you have an injuried Fraizer Campbell on the books there is little room for another high priced striker.
West Ham could move for Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell in the January transfer window.
Full story: talkSPORT
It does make sense as I’m sure Aston Villa would love to send Sidwell on his way. Plus he wouldn’t cost West Ham a ton.
Tottenham midfielder Giovani dos Santos could reject interest from clubs in Mexico to join Italian side Genoa. talkSPORT
Genoa would be a great place for dos Santos to kick start his stalled career.
Aston Villa are keen on West Ham striker Frederic Piquionne and want to team him with Tottenham’s Robbie Keane in a new look attack. Daily Mail
Nothing against Piquionne and Keane both are fine players but not the smartest move if you are looking to rebuild your club around two 30 year old players. Can see Keane going to Aston Villa but not the both of them.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Could Fifa award the World Cup any further away from me as Russia broke the hearts of England Portugal and Spain to host the 2010 World Cup and Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup. A first for a middle eastern nation.
Despite the flaws and my heart break over the Portugal-Spain bid failing I can at least understand Russia being choosen as the weather in the summer should still be fine with football. (Yes I know weather is the last of Fifa’s concerns here) Plus the World Cup would transform the landscape of Russian football which Fifa always likes to see. The Portugal-Spain and England bids were pretty much ready made with their current stadiums. Each country could host it tomorrow if need be.
Qatar is simply a case of enough money being paid to the right people. it’s going to be 50 degrees out there, I don’t care if they have some super Air Conditioning. Combine that with the fact Qatar is a country which doesn’t allow alcohol should make for a great World Cup. What happens if Isreal makes the World Cup? This of course is the same country which wouldn’t grant an Israeli tennis player a visa to enter the country. This is Sepp Blatter once again trying to prove how football can change the world. We get it already with South Africa 2010.

Liverpool are lining up a £10m January raid for Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill. Daily Star
If you are Gary Cahill do you really wanna leave a team rolling like Bolton for Liverpool? More importantly there is little chance Bolton would sell Cahill for 10 million.
David Beckham has turned down the chance to join Everton on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy. The 35-year-old midfielder played with Toffees manager David Moyes at Preston in 1995.
Full story: talkSPORT
Beckham has nothing to prove to anyone at this point. Enjoy your off season.
But LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan, who spent time on loan at Everton last season, wants the club to take him back to Goodison Park in January. Daily Mirror
No doubt Donovan enjoyed his first go around with Everton. Must be nice for Everton to pick up a player like Donovan on loan every January.
Manchester City are keeping tabs on Benfica’s Uruguayan wing-back Maxi Pereira, 26, who could cost about £6m.talkSPORT
Big fan of Pereira who would do the dirty work but would get lost in the Manchester Cit setup.
Liverpool and Newcastle are both considering a bid for Aston Villa’s unhappy midfielder Stephen Ireland, who only joined from Manchester City in August. caughtoffside.com
Gotta wonder about Stephen Ireland who has already made enemies at his time with Aston Villa.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stunned the club’s board by insisting he will not sign any new players in the January transfer window. The Sun
If Arsenal doesn’t win the Carling Cup just throw your hands up and give up. By the way what is worse losing 4-0 albeit with your B team in a Cup competition or losing 5-0 in one game of a competition with 24 more to go? Either way you look at it that was an awful showing by Manchester United yesterday. Cheers to Avran Grant by the way. He’ll get your club sent down but at least he’ll lead you to a cup final.
