World Cup Groups Announced

worldcup

You just can’t tell me the World Cup draw isn’t rigged but I’ll leave that to Oliver Stone to make a movie of one day.

I should be upset Portugal got paired in the “Group of Death” but I’m not. Two months ago Portugal didn’t have control of their World Cup hopes so everything now is a free roll and you know what as Ric Flair says to be the best you got to best the best. Besides it isn’t like Brazil and the Ivory Coast are happy about being paired with Portugal either. North Korea will most likely find out about the draw once the first TV’s are shipped to that country sometime in the new year.

Portugal struggles against teams they deem lesser to them like the U.S in World Cup 2002 and Greece back in 2004 plus the last time Portugal was in a “group of death was in Euro 2000″ when their were paired with England, Germany, Romania and rolled over each team. With Portugal being paired with Brazil and North Korea stories of 1966 will start flowing as we took both countries out of that World Cup.

Trip down memory lane.

Portugal vs Brazil

Portugal vs North Korea where after down 3-0 the great Eusebio scores four to end up winning the game 5-3

The other thing which struck me from this draw is the top countries either have it really easy or really hard in the first round. The only group which shows some balance is Group B with Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, and Greece. Argentina may be the favorites but any of the other three teams can advance.

The likes of England, U.S.A, Italy and Spain have all been given cup cake draws.

Already looking forward to the “Experts” predicting Brazil and the Ivory Coast advancing cause of Portugal struggles in qualifying.
