Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong has pulled out of the Dutch squad for their friendly against Australia in Sydney on Saturday after limping out of City’s draw with Aston Villa on Monday (Press Association, 1045 BST).
With the Dutch having qualified for the World Cup I’m sure they won’t be hit too hard but the absent of Nigel de Jong.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool player Boudewijn Zenden, 33, is to spend a week on trial with Sunderland, says his father and agent Pierre (Press Association, 1040 BST).
Zenden won’t hurt Sunderland but it’s unlikely he’ll be much of a help on the pitch either.
Chelsea could move for Patrick Vieira as cover for Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel when they are away on African Cup of Nations duty in January – if the club can challenge its transfer ban The Sun
All of this because Vieira went to watch Chelsea’s game vs Liverpool on the weekend.
Fulham are interested in American striker Brek Shea, who plays for FC Dallas : The Sun
You would think after spending close to five million on Eddie Johnston they would be hesitant on purchasing another player from MLS. Then again Client Dempsey has been a hit since buying him from New England in 2007.
Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has told a fans’ meeting manager Rafa Benitez is to blame for their faltering progress, not the club’s owners : The Guardian
Not the smartest thing to say but not incorrect either. It’s not like Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal have spent big this summer.

I’m getting confused on the Chelsea transfer rumors…. If they’re under ban for transfers, how can they go after anyone? Is there some difference between transfers for free agents vs. those under contract?
Just trying to see if I can skip reading any of these ‘juicy (or not-so juicy) rumors’.

Not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure they can sign a free agent since technically that isn’t a transfer from one club to another. Doubt Inter will release Vieira on a free transfer to help out Chelsea.
