Just love the way Getafe-Burger King jerseys. In a brilliant move when you turn the jersey inside out a picture of the King appears. Forget this Ronaldo thing the number one reason to look forward to the upcoming La Liga season is to see Getafe score.

New Lyon Signing Cissokho Slams ‘Bad Experience’ With Milan

The 21-year-old claims his transfer to Italy failed because of economic reasons and he says he is happy to be playing in Ligue 1…

Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho is pleased to have joined his new team from Porto, after his move to Milan failed earlier in the summer. The starlet did, however, express disappointment towards the Serie A giants.

“It was an awful story that I lived through, it was a bad experience,” he explained, according to tuttomercatoweb.

Article

Good to see thing work out in the end for all involved. Aly Cissokho gets to go back home to play for one of the biggest clubs in France and Porto still get their €15 million and not a penny less. To this day can not believe how A.C Milan with a straight face put the breaks on this transfer due to Cissokho teeth. What a joke this Milan front office is becoming. It would be one thing if it was a bunch of new faces running the show at Milan but no it’s still run by people who have been there for years and should know better. Currently there isn’t a top tier club which is run as poorly as A.C Milan. From replacing Carlo Ancelotti with Leonardo who has never been a head coach before. To selling Kaka and not replacing him period. Below is a telling quote from the article.

Another Milan target, Luis Fabiano, recently made similar statements, saying he was ‘taken for a ride’ by the Italian club, who at one point looked sure to sign him from Sevilla.

U.S. 2-1 Panama: Cooper the hero in OT

With just one regular in the starting lineup, the United States rallied past Panama into the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Kenny Cooper converted a penalty kick in the 105th minute, giving the two-time defending champions a 2-1 victory and a semifinal berth against Honduras, which beat Canada 1-0 in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader.

“It was ideal to finish it off in regulation, but it took 30 extra minutes and that still says something about this group,” U.S. coach Bob Bradley said.

Article

It also says something about your coaching too Bob Bradley when you have to take Panama to extra time in order to advance. It doesn’t matter if it’s the B team there should be no way Panama makes it that close on your home soil. Generally when a team makes a coaching change the new coach is usually a complete 180 from the old coach. Why hire someone with the same mindset as the previous coach would be the line of thinking? Bob Bradley’s American teams are pretty much the same as Bruce Arena’s American teams. Way too cautious, little creativity and against the top teams they will not score from open play unless the other team makes a mistake. All of this American fans have seen before. What bugged me most about yesterday’s game was the U.S come out for the second half with the right idea and it quickly lead to a goal five minutes in. After Kyle Beckerman’s goal the U.S reverted back to the same old cautious style which did them no good in the first half. The States were given the blue print to succeed and failed to pick up on it. I can understand playing cautious the last 5-10 minutes of a half leading into extra time but not the final 40 minutes.

New Year Same Old Results For Man City

Vodacom Challenge: Orlando Pirates Two Good For Manchester City

The opening game of this year’s Vodacom Challenge ended in victory for Orlando Pirates over Manchester City, thanks to a penalty from Lucas Thwala and a fine long range shot from Phenyo Mongale.

Article

The same principal applies here as I mentioned in my Manchester United article that these games are merely little more than a fitness test. Still won’t stop me from making fun of Manchester City here who lost 2-0 to South Africa’s Orlando Pirates. Interesting how Chelsea won against a better Seattle team 2-0 yesterday, United just got by but still won won themselves 3-2. Manchester City with all these new faces will take some time to gel together it appears.

Emmanuel Adebayor Joins Manchester City

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Manchester City have finally completed the signing of Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor.

The striker has signed a five-year-deal with the club, and becomes their third major attacking signing of the summer. The fee is undisclosed, but rumoured to be around £25 million.

Article

You would have to think at this point if Manchester City were to jump into the top four in England that Arsenal would be the favorites to drop down. My reaction to this transfer isn’t so much how Adebayor will do for City but what Arsene Wenger has up his sleeves to please a fan base which is starting to run out of practice. Provided Arsenal replace Adebayor with the proper player don’t image too many Arsenal fans regretting the transfer of a player who famously said “If you want me to play like Thierry Henry pay me like him.”

Obafemi Martins Now On Wenger’s Wish List

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is targeting another African star in the shape of Obafemi Martins, after Emmanuel Adebayor departed for Manchester City, according to The People.

The latest speculation to hit the headlines is that the Gunners are willing to pay a cut price £7 million for the Nigeria international.

Article

I’d like to wish Arsenal luck trying to sign a player without a real owner or really anyone in charge. Can see why Wenger would target Martins who if reports are to be believed he has liked for years but signing a player from a team who got regulated won’t do much to please Arsenal fans.

Gareth Barry Hits Back At Rafa Benitez

Gareth Barry Responds To ‘Disrespectful’ Liverpool Boss Rafael Benitez

The £12 million man hits back at the Liverpool boss, saying money is not his priority…

Article

Have a lot of respect for Rafa Benitez as a coach but when someone talks back to the Liverpool it’s going to be posted. Loved a couple of Barry’s comments in this article.

“I found Rafa Benitez’s comments a bit disrespectful,” Barry told The Daily Telegraph.

“By that stage my decision was made and people should move on. There was genuine interest from Liverpool and I think he’s probably just upset I chose City.

“I’ve been in the Premier League for ten years, more, and the money I’ve been paid is phenomenal compared to your average, everyday working man. You live and work away from normal life anyway, so money’s not a big factor.

“The difference was that City made me feel wanted. Liverpool had a chance to buy me last season but failed to pay the money, and only found it this year when they knew someone else had reached an agreement.”

Barry is right, it does sound like a case of sour grapes to me. Benitez shouldn’t be talking about a player on another team in that manner anyway. Liverpool for whatever reason could not get the transfer done and Manchester City were able too. As for money being a factor, so what? During Gareth Barry entire career you would never see him out on the pitch and say “oh he is just playing for the money.” On 1000 pounds or 100000 pounds a week you know the type of work rate Barry is going to give you week in and week out. Even if he did leave for money it isn’t the worst sin in the world. He gave Villa ten good years. Sometimes you just want a new challenge in life. Even with all of Barry’s new found riches don’t see his game changing any.

Malaysia XI 2-3 Man Utd: Owen nets first goal

Michael Owen marked his Manchester United debut with a late winner to save his side’s blushes in Kuala Lumpur.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men looked like being held to a surprise draw in the opening match of their Far East tour.

Article

In case you couldn’t tell the title was just meant to be a joke. These games are little more than a fitness test. The results are for the most part unimportant. It did crack a smile seeing United fans excited over Michael Owen grabbing the winner. Personally was happy Nani scored in this game. Hope Nani is given a chance and unlike last year hope Nani steps his game up to be worthy of a starting place.

Sporting CP Striker Liedson Asks For Portugal Call-Up

The Brazilian-born striker has declared that he is available to be called-up by Portugal…

Liedson, 31, has been with Sporting since 2003 and he is now able to apply for Portuguese citizenship after six years in the country.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) revealed this afternoon they had received a letter from Liedson in which he “expressed the wish to represent the national team”.

FPF added that, “before any decision on this matter is made”, they will ask coach Carlos Queiroz for his opinion on the matter.

Liedson, who joined Sporting from Corinthians for €3.2 million, has scored over 100 goals for the Lions.

Article

Just make this happen, quite frankly I don’t care about any drawbacks. Like most people outside of France, Portugal’s top goal scorer Pauleta never really endeared himself to most of the Portuguese public. Most of this was due to never lifting his game up against the world’s top teams but you could count on Pauleta to punish smaller countries with his eye for goal and movement inside the penalty area. The previously mentioned two traits are the same type of skills which Liedson can still offer. This Portuguese team needs a spark badly since the current strikers up front are not cutting it. By the way yes I know it isn’t the greatest sign when I’m counting on a 31 year old from another country to help lead Portugal to next year’s World Cup.

Still a couple of steps away from being in the group stage but the most recent drawing in the third round of qualifying just took place with some big clubs taking part. I’ll wish some luck to Sporting Clube de Portugal who I hope take out Steve McClaren FC Twente side.
