Manchester United have today made their first major capture of this summer’s transfer window, signing Ecuador international Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic.
The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford for an undisclosed fee, though the Latics have confirmed that it is a club record.
Twelve months now there is a good possibility I’m going to feel sorry for Antonio Valencia. While a fine player how many games did he break open for Wigan where he carried them to victory? Granted with the talent United have it’s not like will be asked to lead United to victory single handily but he is replacing a certain player who won games via his individual efforts. Due to no fault of Valencia but Manchester United signing him to replace Ronaldo is like replacing a Lamborghini with a Mercedes. While the Mercedes is a fine car in it’s own right it will have trouble holding up compared to the Lamborghini which has driven off to Madrid.
