American’s Greatest Football Victory…..
Great win today which does a world of good for the U.S soccer program and gives them the boost they need going into next years World Cup. Greatest win ever however it isn’t. Their was a mediocre movie called The Game Of Their Lives about a team of largely amateur American soccer players defeating England 1-0 in the 1950 World Cup. Now that is the greatest football victory American has ever produced which more people on this side of the Atlantic should be made more aware of.
Not the greatest piece of film but hey this happened nearly 60 years ago.

This was totally unexpected. I turned my DVR early this morning & fully expected Spain to hammer the US in the first half, I could then FF through the rest of the match & watch the highlights. Couldn’t leave the room.
This is a great win for the US – they looked defensively good, Tim H. had a great game, and there was positive work from the team. Congratulations – it was a pleasure to watch you play (whether win or loose), you looked like a team.
What ticks me off is that my podunk newspaper ran a story on the first page of the sports section (first coverage of the Confederation Cup AT ALL). WTF! It makes it sound like the Olympic ‘Miracle on Ice’. Right to be proud, and it is newsworthy, but DAMN! At least put the results in from the prelims.
Football is a cruel game, Spain’s streak would come to an end at some point, and it is a happy day for USMNT that they were the ones to come out on top. Will this be good for football (er, soccer) in the US? Hard to say… I can see people maybe taking notice, maybe catching a game or two. But will we sigh & say, ‘We’re doing ok against the big boys’ or ‘We can pull off an upset’? That would be shame. We still have a long way to go.
