Jurgen Klinsmann Officially Fired As Bayern Munich Coach

Klinsi is out of a job after the weekend defeat to Schalke…

Jurgen Klinsmann has been removed from his position as Bayern Munich coach with immediate effect.

The official FC Bayern website states that the board, comprising Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeness, and Karl Hopfner met this morning to communicate to Klinsmann that he was to be fired.

Article

It was only going to be a matter of time before the axe was dropped on Klinsmann tenure at Bayern Munich. With the combination of being out classed by Barcelona in the Champions League to go along with their poor performance in the Bundesliga, Bayern felt a change was needed.

Five Quick European Thoughts

- After Barcelona dropped points on Saturday against Valencia from a neutrals point of view you’d want Real Madrid to beat Sevilla. After going down early, Raul took the bull by the horns and his hat trick ensured a 4-2 victory. This result makes next weekends El Classico even more interesting. A Real Madrid victory at the Santiago Bernabeu next weekend means the title race is on in Spain.

- A.C Milan must be wishing the season wasn’t coming to an end next month with their form. Despite their 3-0 victory and Inter Milan’s loss against Napoli the term too little too late comes to mind.

- If Wolfsburg don’t hold on and win the Bundesliga they will look back at the game against Energie Cottbus as the tipping point. With the chance of going five points up on second place Hamburg to lose 2-0 against Cottbus must be considered a dissapointment.

- After Lyon’s 0-0 tie against P.S.G it looks even more likely a new French champion will finally be crowed. With five games left and a five point lead it’s Marseille title to lose.

- The Fifth point has little to do with Football. Back from vacation so everything should be back to normal. Thanks for your patience.

EPL Week In Review – April 27th

- Tottenham learned on Saturday just how big a gulf in class there is between the top four and the rest of England. Even on a good day for Tottenham a team like Manchester United has another gear they can get too where few teams in the world can match. Considering three out of the four teams left in the Champions League are English the same can also be said for Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

- Must of been a sicker punch for Tottenham fans seeing Berbatov score the 5th and final goal on the weekend.

- I know being a referee is a tough job and it’s all to common for a coach to blame a referee to deflect their own teams poor performance but Harry Redknapp is spot on when he said if Howard Webb is the best ref in England there is a problem. While he didn’t give three yellow cards to one player like Graham Poll did in the 2006 World Cup. Webb was still sent home from Euro 2008 after his poor performance in the Poland-Austria game.

- Seems like ages ago when Aston Villa where in a battle for 3rd. Now they find themselves 10 points behind 4th place Arsenal after their 1-1 draw against Bolton which quite frankly means little to either team.

- Considering Bolton where in a real dog fight for their EPL lives last season, sitting 7 points above the drop zone can be considered an improvement for Gary Megson. Despite this he’ll always have an uphill task winning over the Bolton fans who saw this team over achieve under Sam Allardyce

- Speaking of Allardyce, he must be sleeping alittle easier tonight after Blackburn picked up three key points in their 2-0 victory over Wigan. Job still not done yet but at least Blackburn control their own destiny.

- Manchester City got a nice break facing Everton coming on the heels of their extra time victory in the FA Cup last weekend and their 0-0 draw midweek against Chelsea. Everton were due for a letdown performance and Manchester City took full advantage with a rare road win.

- Hull City coach Phil Brown must have his fingers cross hoping Newcastle don’t win today. Unless Hull get some help they may shockingly find themselves back in the Championship after their hot start to the season.

- Sunderland are in no position to lose 3-0 to West Brom, despite their win last year Sunderland are not home and cool yet.

- Mark Noble, you gotta make that penalty. Chelsea where there for the taking with them looking ahead to Barcelona midweek.

- Must of been nice for Arsenal fans to see Fabregas score twice this weekend. Heading into the Champions League semi finals you can make the claim that Arsenal are in the best form of any team still left in the competition.

Ryan Giggs PFA Player of the Year

giggs

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has been named Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year – the first time he has won the award in his glittering career.

The 35-year-old had picked up the young player’s award twice and has now been voted for the top accolade by his fellow professionals following his exemplary season, which looks likely to end with his 11th Premier League title.

Article

Giggs was given this award largely based on his body of work throughout his career not just this one year but few could find fault with Giggs receiving this award. With Ronaldo not playing at the same form as the last two years and no one else rising up with a career year it was a good time to honour Giggs for the form displayed not only this year but his entire career.

John Carver Out At Toronto FC

Toronto FC coach out

TORONTO — Toronto FC coach John Carver resigned Saturday for personal reasons from a team with a 2-2-2 record.

Assistant coaches Chris Cummins and Nick Dasovic will handle the coaching duties until a replacement is selected next week, the team said in a statement. Toronto FC will host Kansas City on Sunday.

Article

Carver gave an interview to a Newcastle newspaper saying he left due to the way MLS is run. Coming from Europe it is easy to understand why a coach would find coaching in MLS like having both hands tied behind your back. Carver as a coach isn’t able to draw up much of a transfer list due to MLS’s salary coach and player import rules. Most in Toronto however feel that Carver has something lined up for him in England. Maybe a return to the Newcastle coaching setup under Alan Sheaer or a job at Sheffield United where Carver was once current Sheffield United coach Kevin Blackwell assistant at Luton Town.

David Trezeguet’s Agent Pleased With AC Milan Link

‘Trezegol’ seemingly has plenty of high-profile suitors after his signature…

Earlier on Thursday, the press in Italy reported that David Trezeguet will leave Juventus this summer. The striker has not had the best of season’s, suffering from injuries and poor form, while also clashing with coach Claudio Ranieri and he is likely to move on as several team’s are thought to be interested in his services.

“When a team like AC Milan is looking at David, then for me, it is good news,” the player’s agent, Antonio Caliendo, revealed to the Corriere dello Sport. “Milan is a great team and that confirms that my client is a valid champion.”

Article

Another case of agent talk here. Few teams love over 30 players like A.C Milan but signing Trezeguet from arch rivals Juventus would be too messy. Besides if you are Juventus would you really sell Trezeguet to a rival knowing it can easily come back to haunt you next season?

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o claims he has turned down a £35m move to Manchester City. Inter Milan also want the Cameroon star but he says he wants a new deal at the Nou Camp. (Daily Mirror)

Money can’t buy everything. Most players from the World’s top teams are not going to make the jump to Manchester City no matter how much money is thrown at them.

Tottenham are keen on signing Lokomotiv Moscow goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who is currently on loan at Grasshoppers Zurich, as back-up for Heurelho Gomes. (The Sun)

Why did Tottenham bring in Carlo Cudicini then?

Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are tracking CSKA Moscow’s Czech Republic international striker Tomas Necid, 19, who is available for £3m. (Daily Mirror)

Arsenal would be in the running at 3 million. Teams like Real Madrid rarely do transfers for such a little amount (To them) however. If a bidding war occurs even if Arsenal really likes the players which is unknown at the moment look for them to drop out.

Ipswich representatives made an approach to Roy Keane last week – when Jim Magilton was still in charge at Portman Road – and held further talks with the former Sunderland boss on Monday. (The Sun)

Good luck to Roy Keane at his new job at Craig Forrest old club, Ipswich town. Keane has taken one team up from the Championship before so maybe lightning van strike twice.

Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen is expected to announce his retirement by the end of the week. The Dane has been warned that attempting to play on through his persistent knee problems could cause him problems in later life. (Daily Express)

Would be sad to see a classy player like Laursen have to hang it up due to injury.

Liverpool’s American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, have pledged to work together to raise the funds they need to refinance the club’s loans and retain control of the Reds. (The Times)

George Gillett for one can’t sell the Montreal Canadiens quick enough. After their performance last night against Boston can you blame him?

Yossi Benayoun: Liverpool Are Still After Premier League Title

The Israel international insists the Reds have not given up hope of winning the league after their 4-4 draw with Arsenal on Tuesday…

Article

All that was missing from yesterday’s game was Stan Collymore scoring at the end for Liverpool. Besides the fans the other real winner in both classic games would have to be Sir Alex Ferguson. I regret this now but since I had money on Arsenal I left once they gave up the second goal. Smooth move on my part.

Casillas Thinks Pepe Disgraced The Real Madrid Shirt

Pepe’s sending off has received further condemnation from Iker Casillas, who also looked ahead to the title race…

Article

Why am I not shocked by this? Well because Pepe is Portuguese, even if he is a Brazilian transplant. Shocking that he lost in cool in a tense moment, that never happens. (note sarcasm)

Video linked below, it was an awful dive however.
