MLS All Stars To Face Everton
NEW YORK and SANDY, UTAH — Major League Soccer announced Wednesday that legendary English Premier League side and current FA Cup finalists, Everton FC, will face the MLS All-Stars in the 2009 MLS All-Star Game at Rio Tinto Stadium, the home of Real Salt Lake, on Wednesday, July 29 (live on ESPN2 and TeleFutura at 9:30 p.m. ET). This midseason showcase will continue the theme of “MLS Takes on the World.” The MLS All-Star team is 5-0 in previous All-Star Games against international opponents.
Everton isn’t a bad club for MLS to have face their All Stars with joining the likes of Chelsea, Fulham, Celtic and West Ham last year. With American and former MLS player Tim Howard currently Everton’s number one it all ties together nicely in what should be an interesting match.

Obviously these games are interesting but out of curiosity what would you say the standard of an MLS all star team is? Like would it be able to compete in the premiership? would it be better than the best teams in the championship? I know there 5-0 against an impressive list of teams but its hard to judge friendlys that probably mean more to one side than the other. Its difficult for me to gage how good the mls players are because ive never seen most of them play elsewhere

The Average MLS team would most likely be a middle of the pack Championship team. The counter point could be made if an MLS team had some of that EPL TV money flowly in they could with them but that isn’t the case.
The work rate of an MLS player is quite good and even the talent level is better than most give MLS credit for. Where MLS lacks is in coaching and in tactis. Most MLS teams are far too loose at the back compared with the English game.
