There Is Only One Sinnacle

One of the fun things about having a website is the longer this site is online the more things I could look back on and pat myself on the back for being right about something. The flip side to that of course is looking back and seeing you were way off on something. (Picking Hull to pull a Derby County this year in the EPL comes to mind.

Group A Predictions

Team That Did Advance

1. Roma
2. Chelsea

Took a chance on Bordeaux who was in the mix until the final game of the group stage. I’ll still sleep at night for being wrong on Bordeaux.

Group B Predictions

Teams To Advance

1. Inter Milan
2. Werder Bremen

Team That Did Advance

1. Panathinaikos
2. Inter Milan

I went by the book picking Inter and Werder which I generally dislike doing and is also part of the reason I choose Bordeaux just to mix it up in Group A. Inter finishing in second surprised me since as the main reason Roberto Mancini is no longer coaching Inter is due to their failures in the Champions League. What that in mind figured Inter would focus on success during these group stages.

Group D

1. Atletico Madrid
2. PSV

Team That Did Advance

1. Liverpool

Hey, I tried to be cute and picked a big team to get knocked out of the group stage. Took a shot and it failed. Congrats to Liverpool on being the class of a very tough Group D

Group E

Teams To Advance

1. Celtic
2. Manchester United

Team That Did Advance

1. Manchester United
2. Villarreal

Not excuses here as I was way off on Celtic. I figured Celtic would get their fair share of points at home but once Aalborg earned a point during match day one that theory went right out the window.

Group F

2. Lyon

Teams that did Advance

1. Bayern Munich
2. Lyon

I’m starting to question why I even decided to look back at this with the last couple of picks. Shouldn’t of picked Bayern Munich, with all their experience to drop out during the group stage. With Fiorentina’s squad having very little previous Champions League experience looking back they were the ones likely to finish 3rd.

Ah, now I remember why I decided to write this. Good job Porto winning on matchday six to win the group and make my prediction a reality.

To be honest I can’t take much credit here. I figured Real Madrid and Juventus would advance and then decided Juventus would take top spot since it would be easy to pick Real Madrid to win this group.
