EPL Week In Review December 8th

- Roy Keane may of still been coaching Sunderland if they put up a performance in previous games like they did against Manchester United. Personally I’m ready to put this Keane thing to bed since it’s clear he took his ball and went home. What also seemed clear is that those Sunderland players did not enjoy playing under Roy Keane. Being serious all the time only leads to heart attacks and wearing out your players. I don’t recall ever seeing Roy Keane crack a smile or enjoying himself out there. Even the best managers you have the sense aren’t serious 24/7. I’m sure after the players put there work in they can crack a joke and have a laugh with Sir Alex Ferguson as an example. Roy Keane never seemed that type which not only caused him to burn out but caused his players to tune out.
- Nemanja Vidić reminds me of Ricardo Carvalho in the fact that both are in the shadow of England internationals and I’d say that both Vidic and Carvalho are better than their defensive partners. It’s not a coincidence that Manchester United back line become solid as a rock soon after Vidic arrived in Manchester.
- Arsenal fans should be ashamed over their treatment of Emmanuel Eboué. Granted I’m not the biggest fan of Eboue but even with his bad game he doesn’t deserve that treatment. By and large fans are the biggest hypocrites around. This is not only a case with Arsenal fans but with most fans of professional sport teams. It’s easy to love a team of players when you go 49 games unbeaten in the league but go through a rough patch and most fans are the first to turn on players and quickly call for replacements. Then they wonder why players are quick to exit once another team comes calling with more cash in hand.
- I’m going to give a round of applause for Rafa Benitez. It’s not easy to do what he did in benching Robbie Keane and playing what he felt were his best starting eleven. To be fair Benitez is one of the few managers who can bench a 20 million pound signing and not face stick for the fan base due to his popularity. Other managers would feel pressure in putting Keane out there to justify the purchase. Despite that it is still a credit to Benitez who not only benched Keane but didn’t start Andrea Dossena and Albert Riera his other two main summer signings for the overall good of the team.
- Gareth Barry is a fine player in his own right but give me Xabi Alonso any day of the week. Took Alonso awhile to adjust having Javier Mascherano playing along side him but his form this season has been top class capped off with a key goal against Blackburn to crack the game open. Every team could use a Xabi Alonso who works harder than Ronaldinho tooth brush out there.
- How about Deco showing a touch of class on his second goal against Bolton?
- Way to throw that game away Middlesbrough as Hull continues to make a fool out of me by predicting they would finish bottom of the league.
- Raise your hands up however if anyone outside of Hull predicted they would still be in 6th close to the halfway mark.
- Note to Newcastle, you’ll have more success if you play the entire 90 minutes. That is what happens when you take the foot off the gas against any team.
- With Everton short on strikers Joleon Lescott should play up front. The man is better in the box than a lot of forwards currently playing in the EPL.
- Phil Jagielka seemed to be in the Christmas spirit a couple of weeks early with his back pass to Ashley Young who promptly put it pass Tim Howard.
- Remember this win Villa fans when sometime down the road luck won’t smile of you as these things usually even out over the course of a season.
- Yesterday’s game pretty much sums up Everton’s year. With only one home win in eight matches they are lucky to be in 8th spot.
- Last time Tottenham and West Ham faced off Spurs won 4-0. Don’t envision a repeat of that scoreline but goals should be in order. 3-1 Spurs will be my guess for today’s game.

I see them in Central NY too.
Was absolutely appalled with the Arsenal fans’ treatment of Eboue. There is absolutely no call for that. I think children in grade school behave better.
