EPL Week In Review : November 17th

- I’m going to spend very little time on Arsenal this week. Nothing has changed from what I said two weeks ago. Arsene Wenger is a rigged man whose beliefs on the way football should be played doesn’t go hand in hand with winning titles anymore.
- How about Aston Villa however? After Ashley Young missed penalty in the first half Aston Villa could of easily thrown in the towel thinking the breaks will not go their way today but isn’t they pressed on and got their slice of luck, scoring thanks to Gael Clichy well placed header.
- Despite all the hype Theo Walcott gets, Gabriel Agbonlahor stats look even more impressive when you compare them too the young Arsenal player. Seven goals in 13 premier league games for Agbonlahor compared to only one for Walcott in the same amount of games.
- I haven’t mentioned Liverpool a lot recently and that is a good thing. Teams don’t win championship by beating the other top clubs. Teams win championship by going on the road and getting a well deserved 2-0 win in places like Bolton.
- Dirk Kuyt showing the goal showing touch from his Feyenoord days. Few headers will match the quality of Kuyt goal this year.
- Which leads to this problem. What do to with Robbie Keane? When Torres is fulling fit despite what Benitez says he should be in the lineup. On form alone Kuyt deserves to be partnered with Torres up front instead of playing out wide. The problem there is what message does it send when you paid 20 million pounds to purchase a player only to have him become a third option? If Benitez cares about perception he’ll stick with Torres and Keane up front. If Benitez cares about winning he’ll partner up Torres and Kuyt in the upcoming stretch of games.
- Tottenham was due to come back to earth at some point.
- Heurelho Gomes won’t be long for England if he keeps making mistakes like he did over the weekend. Gomes errors are not due to lack of talent, they due to lack of concentration which makes it even worse.
- Danny Welbeck’s goal was just about to steal the headlines in Manchester United 5-0 victory over Stoke City. That was until Cristiano Ronaldo second free kick goal of the game put United ahead by 5.
- With Ronaldo scoring via a free kick now you know he is back in full form.
Now the Portuguese superstar can look forward to a mid week trip to Brazil which I’m sure will make his coach happy.
- Titus Bramble sticks it to his former team with his last minute goal against Newcastle to earn a draw for Wigan. Usually Bramble has been known to stick it to his team with mistakes and lapses in judgment playing D but this weekend was an exception.
- With the possibility of goal difference coming into play later on this season I’m sure Manchester United was thrilled to see Chelsea score three against West Brom after they put five past Stoke. Chelsea has a +13 goal difference compared to United so far this season.
- Mark Hughes is on borrowed time it seems. He has two things going against him. The first is that he has 25 million pounds of talent on the bench in Jo and Elano who by this point have more then likely turned against their coach. Second and more importantly they can’t stop giving up goals. The foundation of every successful team is the ability to keep clean and Mark Hughes can’t field a starting eleven that can do so.
- You know who would of been well suited for this Manchester City job? Sven Goran Eriksson. The former coach had the respect of his players which is something that Mark Hughes may have trouble saying. His teams weren’t eye catching but they were able to keep a clean sheet. Besides the Manchester City experiment isn’t that much difference from his days at Lazio where Eriksson took a team not considered a giant in Italy but backed by an owner willingly to spend money and won a championship with them.

Sven is the special the one, I said it last year dumbest move ever for Man City if only the Shiek would have been there. This “transformation” would have been much quicker
