Juve On Xavi’s Trail – Report

According to Sportmediaset, Juventus are already in the process of planning next summer’s transfer campaign, and Barcelona ace Xavi could become one of their primary targets.

Article

The only way Barcelona would let go of Xavi is to make room for Cesc Fabregas. Since I don’t see Fabregas in Barcelona colors anytime soon and I don’t see Barcelona moving Xavi.

Ronaldo lifts FifPro award

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named FifPro World Footballer of the Year. It is the first in what is expected to be a host of individual honours for the 23-year-old, who scored 42 goals for Manchester United on their way to Champions League and Premier League title glory last term.

Article

Good to see the players have some sense when it come down to voting their Footballer of the year.

Schuster clears air with Real Madrid’s Ramos

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster and Sergio Ramos have held clear-the-air talks.

Ramos was dropped to the bench for Real’s victory over Athletic Bilbao just 24 hours after a disparaging interview he gave in the Madrid press.

Article

Good to see Ramos on back on board with Bernd Schuster. Ramos is too important of a player not be back on board if Real Madrid are to achieve their goals this season.

EPL Gossip Tuesday October 28th

New Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been warned off poaching any of his stars at former club Portsmouth. (Various)

Redknapp will offer Spurs winger Aaron Lennon plus cash to try to lure Pompey striker Jermain Defoe back to White Hart Lane as part of a massive £44m spending spree in January. (Daily Express)

Even if Tottenham over paid for Jermain Defoe, Portsmouth on point of principal alone shouldn’t sell any of there current players to Tottenham. Portsmouth players must already feel like second class citizens seeing their coach just walk out and leave within 24 hours. Selling your best players to Tottenham would be a further blow to the psyche of those still at Portsmouth.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to spend £3m on Greek wonder kid Kyriakos Papadopoulos in January. The 16-year-old defender plays for Olympiakos. (The Sun)

The kid should excel in the Greek league first before moving on. So many “wonder kids” by the time they turn 21 end of like Anthony Le Tallec.

Newcastle’s French winger Charles N’Zogbia is being lined up for a switch to Paris St Germain in the January transfer window. (Daily Mirror)

Most Newcastle fans won’t be shedding many tears if N’Zogbia does in fact leave at some point.

Tony Adams has already been appointed Portsmouth manager and will take charge of the club’s game at Liverpool on Wednesday. (The Sun)

I’m sure most Arsenal fans will wish Adams luck and that he beats his former boss.

Stiliyan Petrov thinks Aston Villa team-mate John Carew, fined £100,000 by Martin O’Neill for going to a lap-dancing bar, should do whatever he wants so long as he performs on the pitch. “We all motivate ourselves in different ways and maybe that is his way – he should go lap-dancing more often,” he said. (Daily Mail)

Stiliyan Petrov may have stumbled upon unique motivational method it seems for John Carew. Still a silly amount to fine a player. It isn’t like Carew negatively effected his team against Ajax last week. Personally I just think this is Martin O’Neil showing off to the media trying to prove that he is the boss. Players both on Aston Villa and from other teams usually remember over reactions such as these down the road.

Ljungberg To Seattle?

Ljungberg Latest MLS Recruit

Former Premier League star Freddie Ljungberg has left England for the United States of America…

Article

If Ljungberg couldn’t stay fit in London playing for Arsenal and West Ham there is little chance Freddie Ljungberg will hold up over an entire MLS season in Seattle. Seattle’s road games would be about a two hour plane ride and those would be their nearest rivals. Those long trips will take its troll on Ljungberg.

No EPL Gossip/Euro Watch For Today Only….

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Quite frankly nothing was out there that I didn’t cover within my EPL Review and European Thoughts.

Five Quick European Football Thoughts

Monday, October 27th, 2008

- Barcelona sure don’t leave the result in any doubt in recent games. Just a scary display of beautiful football scoring five against Almeria in the first 37 minutes. When everything is clicking forget Arsenal, Barcelona is truly the hallmark of the beautiful game being played.

- Gained more respect for Bernd Schuster over how he benched Sergio Ramos against Athletic Bilbao. Being the coach of Real Madrid is tough since you are not in total control of the team and everyone knows it. The only weapon a coach in his spot has over players is playing time and with Ramos lashing out at Schuster in the media this week he wisely showed who is boss by making Ramos watch yesterday’s game.

- Frank Ribery goal just before half time may of saved Bayern Munich season. Things were looking bleak when Wolfsburg jumped to a 2-0 lead and something finally clicked for the defending German champions who stormed back to win 4-2.

- If you miss watching Carlos Tevez play week after week take a look at Napoli’s Ezequiel Lavezzi. If you are a fan of Tevez one can’t help but be impressed by Lavezzi work rate.

- A week ago the heat was on Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri. With victories this past week against Real Madrid and local rivals Torino all is now well at Juventus.

EPL Week In Review : October 27th

Monday, October 27th, 2008

- Tottenham leads off this week in review and for once it appears to be for the right reasons. Ramos had to go, the man simply ran out of ideas to lift this team out of its slump. Three wins since Tottenham Carling Cup victory is not going to get it done for a team with high expectations of itself.

- If I was a Portsmouth fan I’d be quite annoyed with Harry Redknapp at the moment. When he turned down Newcastle last year he went on and on about his love for Portsmouth and his desire to finish off his coaching career there. I can understand if things change but to leave a team in the middle of the season leaves Portsmouth at a huge disadvantage. What happens to Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, and Lassana Diarra? All three players Redknapp sold them his vision for Portsmouth only for Redknapp to get up and leave for London. What type of message does it send to the rest of the team? Harry Redknapp is basically saying to them that there are not good enough to move forward. Sure the five million pounds Portsmouth got for Redknapp will take the sting out of the sudden coaching change somewhat but the next man in charge will have to deal with a lot of player issues if he is going to continue leading Portsmouth in the right direction.

- Not that this will ever happen but if there is a transfer window for players maybe there should be a transfer window on coaches too. We all know Football is a dog eat dog world and nobody knows that better than Tottenham losing Keane and Berbatov but its a tough pill for Portsmouth fans to have to swallow losing their manager 24 hours before an match.

- Harry Redknapp is a good short term solution. The man is used to getting teams out of regulation but at 61 he isn’t the ideal candidate to be a long term manager.

- After winning 2-0 today against Bolton its just about proof positive that those Tottenham players quit on their coach. Don’t know who looks worst, the players who quit on their former boss and in turn the fans would paid good money to see lack luster performances or Ramos coaching methods.

- To think the former Tottenham management team figured Pavlyuchenko and Bent couldn’t play together. They didn’t seem so out of place yesterday.

- Enough about Tottenham as we move on to Manchester United against Everton. Classic tale of two halves. United had total control in the first half but couldn’t find that second goal to put it away. That left the door open for Everton who in turned controlled the second half and were unlucky only to walk away with a point but a fair result none the less. Maybe this will be the result that will turn Everton’s season around?

- Far from sold on Fellaini as a top class player but that was a top class header which tied the game up. Not everyday you see an attacker beat Nemanja Vidić in the air.

- I’m sure Sunderland fans would love to see their team qualify for Europe next season but what they really wanted was a win against arch rivals Newcastle. Thanks to a beautiful free kick by Kieran Richardson that is now mission accomplished.

- Another week another three points for Hull City. Wonder how long it will be until other teams have current Hull manager Phil Brown on their radar when coaching jobs become open.

- No Torres, no problem again for Liverpool who snap Chelsea’s four year undefeated streak at home in the league. Liverpool fans will be walking into work with an extra spring in their step tomorrow morning.

- The sky is not falling on Chelsea, all good things have to end at some point. You can blame it on injuries which left Chelsea with very little depth but the reality is Chelsea couldn’t find a way to crack open a well organized Liverpool back line.

- I’d love to hear Mourinho’s opinion on Chelsea’s defeat but after dropping points to Genoa on the weekend it’s doubtful he’ll be in much of a mood to talk about his former team.

- Never a bad weekend to get a hat trick but with everything that occurred in the last 48 hours Robinho’s hat trick only gets mentioned down here.

- Good win by Arsenal against a West Ham team that usually gives top four teams trouble at home. Last year West Ham tripped up Liverpool and Manchester United at home so Arsenal walking away with all three points and keeping a clean sheet must please them.

Forlan Unsure About Potential Celebration

Diego Forlan faces a bittersweet moment should he score against his former club Villareal on Sunday, and the Uruguayan striker admits that he does not know if he will celebrate a potential goal…

Article

Forlan is one of those players who can’t help but like. Forlan is a positive influence on every team he has been on and has played an important role in Sergio Aguero development.

Real Madrid’s Ramos delivers bombshell: I do not enjoy playing

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has opened up over his frustrations with his form this season.

Ramos hit out at the tactics of coach Bernd Schuster and admitted he was “not enjoying playing” this term.

Article

Just to illustrate that point further here we have a classic example of someone who isn’t a positive influence.

EPL Gossip Sunday October 26th

Arsenal look set to sign midfielder Yaya Toure, brother of Gunners defender Toure. (News of the World)

That is because Barcelona is looking to sell him for below market level. Transfer fee aside Yaya Toure would be a useful player in this Arsenal squad.

Liverpool will face a mutiny of their top stars, led by Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano, if manager Rafael Benitez leaves the club. (News of the World)

Steven Gerrard would still be happy. Besides where would Benitez go to? The only job I could see him leaving Liverpool for is Real Madrid and that job is safe for now.

Portsmouth are considering offloading striker David Nugent to Bolton in January. (News of the World)

That is like me saying I’m considering offloading a fruitcake I got for Christmas. Portsmouth would love to rid themselves out of that 5 million pound mistake.

Manchester City players are living in fear that their jobs will be taken by big-money imports brought in by the club’s new owners. (News of the World)

Not only should the players think that but Mark Hughes should as well.

Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has turned up the heat ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool by insisting the Reds will never be considered great until they end the long wait for the Premier League title. (News of the World)

I do enjoy the mind games Scolari plays with other coaches. When playing Manchester United he made mention of his friendship with Ronaldo and alluded to him playing for Cheslea cause of it. Sure that will never happen but it must of gotten under the skin of Sir Alex Ferguson, the master of these media games.

West Ham striker Craig Bellamy says new boss Gianfranco Zola has transformed the club since he took over and claims he is already a better player under the Italian’s influence. (News of the World)

Nothing says keep me in the starting lineup like kissing up to your boss.

Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has earned £277 per minute since taking the reins at the club – despite having yet to guide them to a win. (News of the World)

It’s not like Joe Kinnear was taking over Brazil here. Also didn’t help that Michael Owen is going through his yearly injury phrase.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has become an official ambassador for Mercedes and they are considering using him to promote their luxury cars. (News of the World)

When I think of high class German engineering Wayne Rooney immediately comes to mind.

Ramos Sacked As Spurs Sink Into Crisis

Juande Ramos is no longer manager of Tottenham Hotspur and Gus Poyet along with sporting director Damien Comolli have also been dismissed…

Article

Agree with the move but like most things Tottenham do the timing is curious. Less than 24 hours before a game isn’t the ideal time to sack a coach and I still remember Martin Jol being sacked in the middle of a UEFA Cup match against Getafe last year. Something had to give and even if the timing is suspect maybe this move will finally wake Tottenham up.

Update : Looks like Harry Redknapp is about to bag his bags for London and take over at White Hart Lane.
