- Tottenham leads off this week in review and for once it appears to be for the right reasons. Ramos had to go, the man simply ran out of ideas to lift this team out of its slump. Three wins since Tottenham Carling Cup victory is not going to get it done for a team with high expectations of itself.
- If I was a Portsmouth fan I’d be quite annoyed with Harry Redknapp at the moment. When he turned down Newcastle last year he went on and on about his love for Portsmouth and his desire to finish off his coaching career there. I can understand if things change but to leave a team in the middle of the season leaves Portsmouth at a huge disadvantage. What happens to Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, and Lassana Diarra? All three players Redknapp sold them his vision for Portsmouth only for Redknapp to get up and leave for London. What type of message does it send to the rest of the team? Harry Redknapp is basically saying to them that there are not good enough to move forward. Sure the five million pounds Portsmouth got for Redknapp will take the sting out of the sudden coaching change somewhat but the next man in charge will have to deal with a lot of player issues if he is going to continue leading Portsmouth in the right direction.
- Not that this will ever happen but if there is a transfer window for players maybe there should be a transfer window on coaches too. We all know Football is a dog eat dog world and nobody knows that better than Tottenham losing Keane and Berbatov but its a tough pill for Portsmouth fans to have to swallow losing their manager 24 hours before an match.
- Harry Redknapp is a good short term solution. The man is used to getting teams out of regulation but at 61 he isn’t the ideal candidate to be a long term manager.
- After winning 2-0 today against Bolton its just about proof positive that those Tottenham players quit on their coach. Don’t know who looks worst, the players who quit on their former boss and in turn the fans would paid good money to see lack luster performances or Ramos coaching methods.
- To think the former Tottenham management team figured Pavlyuchenko and Bent couldn’t play together. They didn’t seem so out of place yesterday.
- Enough about Tottenham as we move on to Manchester United against Everton. Classic tale of two halves. United had total control in the first half but couldn’t find that second goal to put it away. That left the door open for Everton who in turned controlled the second half and were unlucky only to walk away with a point but a fair result none the less. Maybe this will be the result that will turn Everton’s season around?
- Far from sold on Fellaini as a top class player but that was a top class header which tied the game up. Not everyday you see an attacker beat Nemanja Vidić in the air.
- I’m sure Sunderland fans would love to see their team qualify for Europe next season but what they really wanted was a win against arch rivals Newcastle. Thanks to a beautiful free kick by Kieran Richardson that is now mission accomplished.
- Another week another three points for Hull City. Wonder how long it will be until other teams have current Hull manager Phil Brown on their radar when coaching jobs become open.
- No Torres, no problem again for Liverpool who snap Chelsea’s four year undefeated streak at home in the league. Liverpool fans will be walking into work with an extra spring in their step tomorrow morning.
- The sky is not falling on Chelsea, all good things have to end at some point. You can blame it on injuries which left Chelsea with very little depth but the reality is Chelsea couldn’t find a way to crack open a well organized Liverpool back line.
- I’d love to hear Mourinho’s opinion on Chelsea’s defeat but after dropping points to Genoa on the weekend it’s doubtful he’ll be in much of a mood to talk about his former team.
- Never a bad weekend to get a hat trick but with everything that occurred in the last 48 hours Robinho’s hat trick only gets mentioned down here.
- Good win by Arsenal against a West Ham team that usually gives top four teams trouble at home. Last year West Ham tripped up Liverpool and Manchester United at home so Arsenal walking away with all three points and keeping a clean sheet must please them.
