Zanetti: Lets Stay Calm

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti has called for calm after the Nerazzurri were involved in two consecutive goalless draws.

Article

I realize it hasn’t been the greatest week for Inter but some good news going forward is that they have kept clean sheets against two good teams in Genoa and Fiorentina. I’d be more worried if Inter were drawing 1-1 or 2-2 since at some point the goals will come and if the back line can keep clean sheets, wins will start to rack up again.

Gallas injury adds to Wenger backline woes

Arsene Wenger’s problems at centre-back have been complicated by a hamstring injury to Arsenal skipper William Gallas ahead of Saturday’s clash at Stoke.

Article

Arsenal will be fine without Gallas against Stoke. Bad timing for them having to face Arsenal on the heels of that crushing draw against Tottenham mid week.

Carvalho facing injury lay-off

Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho is facing three weeks on the sidelines after limping out of Wednesday night’s 3-0 victory over Hull City.

Article

Getting old sucks with the injuries starting to mount for Carvalho.

Real Madrid medical chief: De la Red OK

Ruben de la Red spent the night in hospital after the Real Madrid midfielder collapsed during last night’s Copa del Rey tie at Real Union.

Article

Always scary seeing a player collapse on the field so I’m glad de la Red is ok. Still remembering seeing Miklos Feher collapse and pass away while playing for Benfica. The visual of those players/coaches crying is something I could never erase.

Hull striker Dean Windass has called off his loan move to Leeds United after being promised a run-out at Old Trafford to face champions Manchester United on Saturday. (The Sun)

Or, Windass could make his Leeds United debut at Cheltenham on Saturday after Hull agreed to fund half his wages. (Daily Mirror)

You know it’s going to be a slow news day when the first thing I read was about Dean Windass. Scored a great goal in getting Hull to the premiership last year but even I could put up a fight in a footrace against Windass.

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto wants to return to France with Paris Saint-Germain his preferred destination. (Daily Mirror)

I was all in favor of shipping Assou-Ekotto back in France in my Sinnacle takes on Tottenham article. I actually enjoyed writing that. Since I can’t think of a team yet to do my next article on if anyone has any ideas feel free to share.

Arsenal players were involved in a furious post-match bust-up following Wednesday’s 4-4 draw with local rivals Tottenham. (The Sun)

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger pulled no punches in a heated exchange with his Arsenal stars after their two-goal collapse to Spurs. (Daily Mirror)

I’d like to think this Arsenal team will learn from this slip up but I just don’t think they have the make up to do so. Arsenal have never replaced what Patrick Vieira brought to this team and in games like these it shows.

Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has been told he will have to sell in order to buy new players in the January transfer window. (The Times)

Who do Chelsea have to sell that always doesn’t currently feature in the first team? Wayne Bridge is always mentioned but he signed a new contract and could of forced a move in the summer if he really wanted to. Do Chelsea sell a good young player like Scott Sinclair? Even if they do how much would you really get in return for an unproven talent?

Besides for the most part the January transfer window is where bad teams over paid in order to make up for the mistakes in the summer transfer market. Top teams like Chelsea rarely bring in first team worthy players.

Beckham to join AC Milan on loan in January

David Beckham will have only two months to make an impact at AC Milan after clinching a loan move to the Serie A giants on Thursday. The 33-year-old England midfielder will join Milan on January 7 and could make his debut four days later away to Roma.

Article

You can’t blame Beckham for wanting to extend his England career. Playing for your country should always be valued. When Beckham signed with the Galaxy he was out of the England picture and with 2010 within sight Beckham is willing to do whatever possible to ensure he remains a part of Fabio Capello’s plans.

This will also be a good adventure for David Beckham. Most English players never step foot outside of the Premiership where as David Beckham has played for top teams in England, Spain and now all be it briefly Italy. Something more English players should experience.

Wenger: ‘I Am Angry’

Arsenal were five minutes away from a 4-2 victory and three home points this evening but Tottenham came back and stole a point. Arsene Wenger said he is angry with the manner in which his side capitulated.

Article

Sure Arsenal can put up lavish performances but when push comes to shove against squads that are not afraid of the Arsenal mastic they lack winners to combat those teams. I keep waiting for all this young Arsenal promise to develop in games that mean something like this fierce North London derby and once again Arsenal have come up short. Arsenal can sure sell the sizzle, the steak however has been in short supply the last three years.

Timo Hildebrand breaks silence on Valencia frustations

Timo Hildebrand has broken his silence over his deteriorating situation at Valencia.

The Germany international goalkeeper said on his personal website: “The club has shown in recent weeks that they do not regard me useful for the team. Or rather, not up to anything.

Article

Hildebrand stock sure has dropped in the last year. Once being considered the German number 1 in goal to now back up at Valencia. When the team is winning, a players request for playing time will fall on deaf ears.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has joined Arsenal in the race to sign Leeds’ 17-year-old midfielder Fabian Delph for about £6m. (The Sun)

Another example of how far Leeds have fallen or how far Sunderland have risen. Eight years ago it would of been Arsenal and Leeds fighting it out to sign a player from Sunderland. Back to Delph it will always be tough for Sunderland to attract a player being in North East England when compared to London.

Everton manager David Moyes is considering making a £6m offer for Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt. (Daily Mirror)

Petr Cech won’t be thrilled to hear this news.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has lined up a £1.5m bid for Bolton defender Danny Shittu. (Daily Star)

Must suck living in England and going through life with such a last name.

Newcastle’s interim manager Joe Kinnear will seek a long-term contract if owner Mike Ashley fails to secure a quick sale of the club. (Various)

I kinda like Joe Kinnear only because I generally cheer for hopeless causes but for Newcastle to commit it’s long term future to Kinnear before the season is over would be foolish.

Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch has pledged his future to the club following the departure of manager Harry Redknapp. (The Sun)

Now Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe can look forward to answering the same question.

My Top Five Favorite Goal Celebrations…..

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

For today anyway. Hate making top five/ten lists because like most things in football it’s so subjective and then someone comes along and reminds me of something that should of made the list. So with that my top five favorite goal celebrations for October 29th

5. Bernardo Corradi – Gotta love the Street Fighter celebration.

4. Bebeto – Rocking the candle was classic

3. Nani – Don’t try this at home

2. Peter Crouch – Robot Dance

1. Pele – Keeping it simple as I’ve seen that Leap for what seems like a million times.

Adriano Misses Training

Inter striker Adriano was told to go home by Jose Mourinho when he turned up late for training this morning…

Article

Adriano is the type of person you’ll see in his 40′s at a bar talking about how he could of been this or that and then proceed to blame everyone else but himself for his downfall. Would be sad to see all that talent go to waste.

Ronaldo to snub Europe for return to Brazil

Brazilian striker Ronaldo, one of the finest players of his generation, has decided to turn his back on European football in favour of a move back to his homeland and a possible contract with Flamengo.

Article

I have said all along that Ronaldo should start his comeback for Flamengo and stay clear of Europe. If Ronaldo is serious about his desire to play for Brazil again, playing at home will be a huge benefit for Ronaldo who will end up having the media champion his cause much like Romario back in 2002. Granted that didn’t end up so well for Romario.

Wenger argues Ramos sacking was premature

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken a swipe at Tottenham ahead of Wednesday night’s north London derby.

Wenger believes Spurs acted too hastily in sacking Juande Ramos at the weekend and bringing in Harry Redknapp from Portsmouth as his replacement.

Article

Wenger is upset that Ramos was fired but he too could take three points from Tottenham.

EPL Gossip Wednesday October 29th

New Portsmouth manager Tony Adams says he fears an exodus at Fratton Park after Harry Redknapp’s departure. (The Times)

Adams has also said that any player who is unsettled following Redknapp’s departure can leave Pompey. (Various)

While it has been proven you can win with kids, you’ll be hard pressed to win with players whose heart isn’t in it.

West Bromwich Albion are lining up a bid for Manchester United’s Angola striker Manucho and they are also interested in Real Mallorca striker Oscar Trejo. (Daily Mail)

It was always a stretch to believe that an unknown player from Angola was going to make the grade with Manchester United. Would make a good story however if Manucho did.

Emile Heskey has warned that he could make a decision on his future in the summer, by which time his contract with Wigan will be up. (The Sun)

Heskey mom didn’t raise no fool. Wait until the summer to play off one team against another.

Juande Ramos has blamed his sacking on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s decision to sell strike duo Robbie Keane and Juande Ramos (Daily Express)

Tottenham wasn’t exactly lighting up the league towards the end of last year even with Dimitar Berbatov and Keane.

Gunners midfielder Cesc Fabregas says north London rivals Tottenham would struggle to beat Arsenal’s Ladies side. (The Sun)

Not the type of quote Fabregas usually gives to the media which makes its even funnier.

Meet The New Coach Of Argentina….

Maradona to become next coach of Argentina

Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona is set to be named coach of the national side after he came out of a meeting with Argentinian Football Association president Julio Grondona on Tuesday.

Article

All I have to say is that I hope Maradona has a great supporting staff to back him up. At the elite level an x’s and o’s coach isn’t exactly needed but you would at least want someone who has some experience and whose life hasn’t been a wild rollercoaster ride for the last 20 years.
