A Nigerian consortium planning to bid for Newcastle needs to raise an “extra £50m to £100m” to buy the club, with owner Mike Ashley holding out for £400m. (Daily Mirror)
If successful, they would make Everton striker Yakubu their top target. (Daily Mirror)
Somewhere in Portsmouth Kanu is jealous. Again I ask myself the question why don’t more British people/companies step up and purchase these teams. Just about ever EPL team that is on the market has been scooped up by a foreign investor.
Outgoing City owner Thaksin Shinawatra stands to make £50m profit after selling the club to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, just over a year after he bought it. (Daily Mail)
Case in point. The fraud didn’t do to bad with his investment in Manchester City.
Tottenham and Bolton are on alert after Sporting Lisbon’s Montenegrin striker Simon Vukcevic, 22, admitted he wants to leave the club. (Daily Mirror)
More trouble than he is worth. Vukcevic is unhappy at being on the bench at Sporting well he’d never even see the bench at Tottenham. Bolton he could feature in however.
An independent tribunal, set up to look into the Carlos Tevez affair at West Ham and Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League, has found against the Hammers who could be forced to pay the Blades £30m in compensation. (Various)
Good for Sheffield United. The FA clearly wanted to sweep this under the rug where anyone could see there was something wrong with Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano suddenly being registered as West Ham players.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has blasted Manchester City’s new owners for not really caring about the club and questioned the reasons why they have bought the club. (Daily Mirror)
Arsene Wenger should continue to focus on his own club. It’s been three weeks now and he still has Manchester City on his mind.
A confidential letter given to all Arsenal’s players ahead of their 3-1 at Bolton was left lying around the team’s hotel. In it manager Arsene Wenger stresses the importance of being a team, before listing 14 bullet points all about the team’s ethos, including: “Believe in the strength of the team”, “Be fresh and well prepared to win”, and “Stay grounded as a player and as a person”. Sadly we are Champions was no where to be found in that letter but starting next week we are in first place can be.
