Think Tottenham Misses This Guy?

With Robbie Keane gone, Berbatov looking to follow him and Darren Bent who is no sure thing think Tottenham regret letting Defoe go? At the time it was understandable with Portsmouth paying the 7-9 million pound fee (depending on who you believe) to acquire Defoe. Up to that point Defoe was mainly coming on a substitute under Martin Jol which didn’t change once Juande Ramos took over.
The main reason Tottenham sold him was because he was about to enter the last year of his contact and Spurs were worried about losing him for nothing. If Tottenham knew that both Keane and Berbatov were heading for an exit all attempts would be made to sign Defoe up long term as he would have the inside track at one of the two starting striker spots had he’d still been on the team.

Ain’t hindsight 20/20? It certainly looked to be a good move at the time, and I’m sure JD is enjoying his 1st team starts for Pompey. He always added a spark coming off the bench with his speed and enthusiasm.
