EPL Gossip Thursday August 7th

Liverpool could have raised some of the cash to finance a move for Gareth Barry with the sale of Dirk Kuyt – but the Reds scared off Hamburg with their £16m valuation of the Dutch striker. (Daily Mail)
More like caused Hamburg to laugh out loud at that price. I respect the work rate of Dirk Kuyt but he is nothing more than a Dutch Alan Smith.
Sunderland boss Roy Keane is set to test Blackburn boss Paul Ince’s resolve with a £7m bid for Ewood Park striker Benni McCarthy. (Various)
The price is right in my opinion. Blackburn should sell a 30 year old Benni McCarthy to any team willingly to cough up that dough. The trouble is who has Paul Ince targeted since taking over at Blackburn. He’ll need to work the transfer market like Mark Hughes if Blackburn have any shot of a successful season.
Aston Villa are close to securing the signature of Middlesbrough right-back Luke Young for about £5m and Reading left-back Nicky Shorey for £4m. (Various)
Luke Young signing on would at least make me feel smarter after narrowing him as the only realistic transfer target that were mentioned in yesterday’s EPL gossip.
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan insists Alan Smith still has a future at the club, despite reports linking the striker with a move to Everton. (Daily Star)
Saying a player has no future at a club only decreases his player and will effect his confident if a transfer doesn’t occur.
Deportivo La Coruna claim they have agreed to sell centre-back Fabricio Coloccini to the Magpies. (The Times)
For a team that haven’t exactly been masters in the transfer market they should have a keeper in Coloccini.
Tottenham are lining up a bid for Rangers’ £12m-rated defender Carlos Cuellar. (Scottish Sun)
How much money does Ranger stand in lose in Champions League revenue after losing to the mighty FBK Kaunas? Yep you guessed it £12 million pounds. Nice to see a paper make up a number but this time not out of the blue.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes wants talks about the situation at the club following reports that owner Thaksin Shinawatra wants to sell the Eastlands outfit. (The Sun)
Maybe Mark Hughes and Sam Allardyce will meet one day for tea and discuss how one wrong move can serious damage ones reputation.
