Barcelona Cruises Past New York Red Bull

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Samuel Eto’o scored two goals and Xavi Hernandez added a goal and two assists to lead FC Barcelona to a 6-2 win over the New York Red Bulls in an international friendly on Wednesday night.
It’s not just based on this performance which is only a friendly but the Red Bull need to do something with that team. New York seems to be always in this middle ground. they are not awful but neither are they very good as high profile signings with the exception of Angel have been lackluster dating all the way back to Lothar Matthäus in 2000.

That was a scary game from the Red Bulls side… They couldn’t keep their form with the Barca onslaught. Not sure if it’s a confidence thing playing against Barca or what. One thing that stood out is that RB’s would punt the ball down field and loose possession instead of trying to pass it up the field. This reminds me of how we used to play in the backfield in the 70’s (here in the States) – get your foot on the ball & clear it. If this is a US ‘thing’, we really need to outgrow it fast.
The game certainly did highlight the differences between a top-flight team and a lower team.
