EPL Gossip for Tuesday April 29th

Liverpool could capture Brazil winger Amanatino Mancini for a cut-price £4m as he looks set buy out the last year of his contract at Roma. (Mirror)

Mancini is maddening inconsistent but when he is in top form they are few players more dangerous then him. Mancini rejected a contact extension earlier this month with Roma earlier this month which will pave the way for a summer transfer.

Newcastle want West Ham striker Dean Ashton, and are also interested in Everton left-back Leighton Baines and Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar.

Spaniard Cuellar could be landed as part of a swap deal involving £5m-rated Alan Smith. (Various)

Alan Smith never got going in Newcastle. It might do him some good playing for Rangers and getting some more Champions League experience.

Sunderland will hand manager Roy Keane an £80m transfer kitty. (The Sun)

What is Keane going to do with 80 million pounds. They are only so many Kieran Richardson one can buy. With the exception of a Craig Gordan how many players that are truly worth 10-20 million pounds are going to play for Sunderland? The end result will be Sunderland overpaying for second tier players who will join Sunderland but are not top four class.

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has pledged his long-term future to the club, despite reported interest from Manchester United. (Various)

Good to see, had a great season for Blackburn. He was already a role player on a big club, I didn’t fancy him wanting to relive that experience again. At some point you really just want to play week in and week out.

Sheffield United striker James Beattie has turned down an £8m move to Middlesbrough. (Daily Star)

Middlesbrough would be foolish to even offer that much money to Beattie. Sheffield United must of been saying dammit since they signed Beattie for 4 million pounds only last summer.
