EPL Gossip for Friday April 4th

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill travelled to Germany to watch Bayern Munich’s giant centre-half Daniel van Buyten as he seeks a replacement for Olof Mellberg. (Daily Mirror)

Dealing with Bayern Munich in the transfer market is never easy. Just ask Manchester United regarding Owen Hargreaves. At 6′5 he is the type of player that Martin O’Neill likes to feature in his squad.

Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant was demoted to reserve team action against Everton and is likely to be released in the summer. (Daily Mirror)

Part of the problem with the whole England set up right there. Players like Pennant have talent. He is a quick winger who can float balls in the box. Still recall the game against Sunderland this year which he played quite well, not to mention his goal against Chelsea last year. The problem is he doesn’t play and players lose confidence. He is still young enough, hopefully he’ll land on a team where he can play regularly.

Former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman taunted his old club by saying “Jose Mourinho would never have lost” against Fenerbahce. (Various)

Former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman is right. While it may of been a boring 1-0 win, Chelsea would not let that game slip away.

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has apologised for his actions before and after his sending off against Manchester United and admits he deserved his extended ban. (Daily Mail)

This should of occurred right after the game and not two weeks later.

Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt grew up two miles from the home of referee Pieter Vink, who decided his challenge on Arsenal’s Alexander Hleb was not a penalty, but insists he did not receive special treatment in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. (Daily Star)

It was a penalty. Conspiracy theory I don’t believe however.
